Zadar is the historical center of the Dalmatia coast. It is both an atmospheric time machine and an open air museum with architecture and history that dates back over 3000 years. Its famous Roman and Venetian gates which are classed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site are one of the many stand out attractions of this unique and beautiful city. The city’s architecture boasts some of the most unique and historical buildings in Europe with the world’s only sea organ, designed by Nikola Bašić, one of the most memorable sights in Zadar.
Its historical streets are a world apart from Split and Dubrovnik’s cruise ship crowds with sunsets that Alfred Hitchcock himself said ‘were the most beautiful in the world’. The coast is particularly pretty, and the islands and the untouched nature allures many boaters to this region.
Zadar can be the start of micro-adventures in Croatia’s national parks. Plitvice Lakes is a stand-out destination, known for its crystal clear lagoons and waterfalls.
