Tour Overview

Our Island Hopping holiday introduces you, in comfort and ease, to two gems of the Canary Islands archipelago. Two beautiful hotels await you and we have suggested daily itineraries for you to explore at your leisure.

The Canary Islands archipelago consists of 7 islands that are more than just sun, sea and blond or black sand. Be spell-bound by 2 islands that are as distinct as they are charming and prepare to be surprised. Black lunar landscapes open up to lush green valleys with a backdrop white snow-capped volcanos and vibrant blue seas. A rainbow of cultures also welcomes you from pre-Hispanic inhabitants to Spanish colonies dusted with African influence and all of this is reflected in their tempting cuisine accompanied by wines from local sun-drenched vineyards. Salud!

La Gomera

Days 2 | La Gomera, South West Route (50 miles – 2 hours)

After breakfast it´s time to discover the south west part of this magic island. Your suggested route for today is to firstly head towards Degollada de Peraza to enjoy the view over to the reservoir to San Sebastian. Then continue towards Roque de Agando, a natural monument located between the ravines of La Laja and Benchijigua. This is spectacular example of volcanic activity creating unique and spell-binding rock formations. Passing by the incredible views offered by the National Park and Laguna Grande your next stop is the hamlet of Arure, well-known for its traditional Silbo language.

Returning back from Valle Gran Rey over Las Hayas you will reach El Cercado; a village with typical stone houses where artisans still use traditional pottery methods handed down from generation to generation. Continue towards Chipude, located under the slopes of the archaeological site of La Fortaleza considered to be the oldest settlement on La Gomera. Finally, take the scenic road home and continue to Igualero and return through Alajero pausing briefly at El Paso before returning to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

La Gomera 2

Day 3 | La Gomera, North Route (27 miles – 2 hours) – Ferry to Los Cristianos, Tenerife and onto Puerto de la Cruz (65 miles, 1 hour 15 mins)

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before you set out for your last day on la Gomera. Your final day will introduce you to some of the island’s most stunning nature. Start driving towards Alajero and on to La Laguna Grande where you can immerse yourself in the stunning laurel forest in The National Park of Garajonay, one of the best examples in the world. Much of the vegetation found in this protected area disappeared from the Mediterranean during the ice age of Quaternary era and you will find more information at the Juego de Bolas visitor centre. Next, head north towards the enchanting village of Agulo and then to Hermigua well known for its banana plantations before finishing this route at San Sebastian, the capital of the island. Christopher Columbus chose this island as last stop before leaving Europe across the Atlantic Ocean. Don´t miss a visit to Casa de Colón or La Iglesia Asunción, where Columbus and his crew attended a mass before departing and observe Pozo de la Aguada where they collected water for the long journey.

It’s finally time to bid farewell to this pretty island and, after dropping your car back to the rental office, leave by fast ferry to Tenerife. Upon arrival to Los Cristianos Harbour you will pick up your new rental car. Use this opportunity to visit this former fishing village. Its calm waters, golden sand and little fishing boats docked by the shore will win you over. Head towards Puerto de la Cruz to your new hotel. Puerto de la Cruz is a popular resort with a charming atmosphere where you can discover its colonial past or stroll along the sea promenade.

Your hotel in Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife is the 4* Hotel Taoro Garden on a bed and breakfast basis.

La Gomera 3

Days 4 | Orotava National Park, Mount Teide to El Sauzal (75 miles, 3 hours)

Today we suggest that after breakfast you start the day driving to the evergreen valley of La Orotava. Its streets and buildings point towards its past cultural splendour; don´t miss a visit to the House of Balconies.

Then head towards the lunar landscapes in the National Park of Las Cañadas and discover more about Tenerife’s 400 volcanos. From the impressive viewpoint of Roques de García you have a breath-taking view of Mt. Teide, the highest peak in Spain with 3.718 metres. Old flows of lava, black volcanic and colourful rock formations dominate the landscape resembling the moon. After, it’s a change of scene as you descend through La Esperanza´s forest, and breathe in the aroma of the cool eucalyptus. Arrive at the lovely village of El Sauzal, a settlement that goes back to the island´s prehispanic era and visit the 16th century Church of St. Peter and the 16th century estate of the former Marquis of El Sauzal. From there head towards La Garañona´s viewpoint with gorgeous views of the craggy coastline out to the Atlantic ocean. It’s a charming stop before driving back to Puerto de la Cruz where you could then visit Lago Martiánez, the famous salt waterpool designed by the well-known Canarian architect and artist César Manrique.

Mount Teide

Day 5 | Santiago del Teide, Masca, Garachico and Icod (72 miles– 3 hours)

Start the day with a hearty breakfast at your hotel then the suggested route for today takes you along the pretty single track road that links El Tanque to Santiago del Teide passing through beautiful hamlets including Ruigomez and Erjos. After a stop in Santiago del Teide, proceed to the beautiful hamlet of Masca with its cottages lined up along the mountain ridges. Balancing on the edge of the abyss created by the Island's deepest ravines, the cottages take up almost every inch of inhabitable space. The Cherfe lookout point (on the road from Santiago del Teide) provides fantastic views of this remote village that has always been a remote place, which was only recently supplied with electricity. Continue your journey travelling through the Teno Nationa Park, down to the area of El Palmar, Buenavista and finally arrive in the village of Garachico situated by the ocean. Get to know this emblematic village and its cobblestoned streets founded in 1496 by the Genoese tradesman Cristóbal de Ponte. The famous "thousand-year-old Dragon" (although its age is officially 800 years) is one of the most important natural, cultural and historic symbols of the Canary Islands.

After a day of exploring, return for a relaxing evening in Puerto de la Cruz.

Most of the year, its untouched vegetation is bathed in a blanket of clouds. If you follow the meandering road down, you will reach the coast lined with secluded villages, including Taganana. The charm of this village lies in its fabulous beach, steep sloping landscapes and small restaurants. Next on the line up is La Laguna where you can discover the magic of the town walking through the historic quarter which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Since 1526, the figure was kept in the shrine built but during a flood in 1826 the figure disappeared and was remade by Fernando Estévez in 1827. Candelaria is related to Guanches´memories. and in the Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias stands the huge bronze statues of the nine Guanche "menceyes" (kings), created by Tenerife sculptor José Abad.
