Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain and the capital of Catalonia. Originally founded as a Roman city, Barcelona has developed into one of the most popular city breaks in Europe, offering an unbeatable selection of cultural sights, attractions, shopping opportunities, gastronomic delights and beach tours.
Almost every visitor to Barcelona heads straight to Las Ramblas, the main artery of the city and always busy with a host of bars, restaurants, florists, shops, streets musicians and theatre.
A real must-visit in the Boqueria Market, featuring a dazzling display of fresh shellfish, flowers, and amazing selections of fruit, vegetables, olives and spices. The market is a fabulous blaze of colours and flavours, and is home to some of the best tapas bars in the city.
A visit to Barcelona wouldn't be complete without a tour of the Gothic Quarter, or Barri Gothic. Situated in the centre of the old city, the quarter features many original medieval and Roman buildings as well as many small squares opening from the labyrinthine street plan.
Tour the city to see the stunning architectural works of Gaudi, from the world-famous Sagrada Familia cathedral to the Parc Guell and the UNESCO-listed La Pedrera. Barcelona is also home to the Picasso Museum, featuring one of the most extensive collections of the artist's work in the world.
The cooking of Catalonia is robust yet refined. The famous tapas bars can be found across the city; there's no better way to enjoy local food, wine and conversation than around a social table or propping up the bar in one of these lively bars.
